Maria Luise Stark's Fallrohr farm is in Alliz on Val Venosta's Monte Sole Mountain, high above the marble-producing village of Lasa. She runs the family business along with her husband, Martin. Maria Luise, who inherited the farm, graduated from the agricultural college in Ora, and Martin attended South Tyrol's technical college for fruit production, viticulture and horticulture in Laimburg. Together they manage the majority of the work but when they are especially busy with apple picking during the harvest, they also rely on professional help. They grow Golden Delicious, Pinova and Jonagold in their orchards. Maria Luise was convinced to go organic by her father-in-law back in 2003. As she puts it these days, "he didn't have to push too hard". She was never completely won over by other ways of farming, and she is pleased that she made the change. In this way, it is possible to get healthy apples to ripen properly in a manner befitting the sensitive natural environment of the Monte Sole Mountain.
