Jonagold
Origin: Jonagold was created in New York State in 1953 from an American cross between the Golden Delicious and Jonathan varieties.
Fruit: The top of Jonagold is greenish yellow while the bottom has a carmine colour with a striped to watery tinge.
Taste: The apple has loose crunchy flesh. It is juicy and aromatic, and has a sweet and finely acidic taste which is due to a balanced sugar-acid ratio.
Ripening: End of September.
Marketing season: End of September to June.
Recommendation: A delicious apple which is suitable both for eating fresh and for baking, cooking, steaming and frying.
