Raspberries
Origin: The natural growing area of raspberries is enormous. They grow wild in central and northern Europe, in Asia and in north-eastern America and are cultivated in nearly all of these areas.
Fruit: The juicy and sweet raspberries grow on thorny raspberry bushes of up to 2 m. From a botanical point of view raspberries are aggregate fruits, meaning that there are several small and hairy drupes that detach cleanly and easily from their receptacles when they are mature. The garden raspberry reaches a diameter of about 2 cm. Most varieties of the roundish and elongated raspberries have a red colour. Its taste is unique among the local fruit varieties.
Taste: Raspberries are very aromatic.
Maturity: from end of June to the beginning of August.
Recommendations: Raspberries are easily perishable. Therefore, it is not advisable to store them. They are, however, suitable for freezing. Raspberries should be eaten raw or processed immediately. These delicious berries can be used for cold sweet soups, fruit salads, ice-cream, pudding, red berry compote, cakes, jam and rum pots etc.
