Iceberg lettuce

Vegetables of the valley Val Venosta: Iceberg lettuce

Origin: Iceberg lettuce is a Californian variety. Its name comes from the fact that these lettuce heads were chilled for transportation in former times.

Plant: Its crunchy leaves grow tight and contain a lot of water in their cells. The colour of these lettuce heads that resemble cabbage varies from medium green to dark green with brighter central leaves.

Taste: Iceberg lettuce has a fresh and strong taste.

Maturity: from June to September.

Recommendations: Iceberg lettuce can be stored in the vegetable drawer of the fridge for up to two weeks. Even partially cut radicchio will keep fresh for a week in the fridge. The crunchy leaves are very delicious with tomatoes, radish, onion or sheep’s cheese.
