BIO Organic Producer – Pöderhof Management: Martin Pircher
“Organic equals respect.”
Pöder farm is quite different from most of South Tyrol's organic holdings. It is located 1,100 metres above sea level in the hamlet of Alliz near Lasa village on the Monte Sole Mountain in Val Venosta. Martin Pircher manages it with his father Walter. The other string to the farmers' bow is farmstay holidays. Martin completed his secondary education at the Ora agricultural high school. Nowadays, he also rents land from other people in addition to farming his own. Martin carefully selects the varieties for his orchards as the altitude puts large demands on the plants, which in turn require optimal care and attention. Golden Delicious, Red Delicious, Jonagold and Pinova all ripen here to perfection. Martin has always taken care to eat organic products himself. As a result, the conversion to organic farming in 2006 was a logical step for him. He says that now he is on the right track for him and for his children. Because organic is about respect. Respect for what is there now, and for what will come next.
Where I live
The elegant precocity
The tasty gala appears every summer in its reddish yellow shell and the new apple season begins.
from September to March
smooth shell, spherical shape, slightly conical, pale yellow base colour with bright red and striped cover
crispy and juicy with firm pulp
refreshing, sweet with little acidity
The versatile gold piece
To be consumed fresh, baked, cooked, stewed and toasted, the apple of New York really is worth gold.
form October to August
greenish yellow with crimson basic colour, striped and covered in faded red
juicy with loose, crispy and slightly grainy pulp
bittersweet with a balanced ratio of sugar and acid
The classic delicious
Golden Delicious is our main variety and, therefore, the queen of Val Venosta apples. That the most popular apple has a real quality, can be seen in its lovely red cheek. By the way, this is typical of fruits on a hillside.
from October to November
greenish yellow to golden yellow
juicy with very fine and soft pulp
sweet with delicate acidity
The Val Venosta resistant
The Pinova with its red vermilion-red skin is a typical apple of Val Venosta. Not only is it colourful, it also has a very balanced flavour. Thanks to its long durability, it offers you unlimited fruit enjoyment until the summer season.
from January to June
Bicolour, yellow to greenish, at least 30% of the fruit is covered with a bright vermilion colour
