"Bear-strong organic performance at the “Bärenstall” farm"
The whole family helps at harvest time.
I discuss the apples’ quality with my husband Michael.
You have to empty the picking basket very carefully so that the apples don’t roll.
A blaze of color that’s a real pleasure.
The old tractor is still in use.
In times of division of labour and specialisation, there are few people today who can still claim to manage a forest, a fruit meadow, arable land and pastureland. However, these areas do not throw off anything on their own. My whole family and an employee manage these areas with me at the Nördersberg mountain in Silandro and in Lasa. More precisely, I have "only" leased the orchard, but it belongs like a milestone in my emotional world as a convinced organic farmer. This world is emotional in its justification and very rational in its daily operational management.
The necessary knowledge was acquired by my daughter in the agricultural school Fürstenburg and by myself through regularly attended courses. It is fun to see the Gala and Pinova apple varieties growing, to observe the rye and potatoes in their development and also to admire the esoteric Goji berries in Val Venosta. Being a farmer makes us happy because it allows us to make our consumers happy. Sometimes you only make a small circle of people happy, like with the strawberries, which I use in many sweet desserts for my own consumption, or with the carrots, which I enjoy as a side dish or snack for in between. A highlight is probably the processing of the grain into oven-fresh bread. It tastes so good that many people already demand it.
The idea of creating an idyllic place for a holiday on a farm from our “Bärenstall” farm is pretty much attractive. With sparkling eyes we are in the process of weaving the dream further. We want to be a little special, just like the goji berries we grow. Who knows what more flavours these wolfberries can unfold here at the Bärenstall farm. Sweet, sour or even bitter? Who knows, but it's safe...here in the climate of the Val Venosta, many types of fruit and vegetables automatically become superfood. For me, the fact that we grow according to organic guidelines alone means super quality, which is characterised by responsibility and environmental protection.
Where I live
The elegant precocity
The tasty gala appears every summer in its reddish yellow shell and the new apple season begins.
September - March
smooth shell, spherical shape, slightly conical, pale yellow base colour with bright red and striped cover
crispy and juicy with firm pulp
refreshing, sweet with little acidity
The Val Venosta resistant
The Pinova with its red vermilion-red skin is a typical apple of Val Venosta. Not only is it colourful, it also has a very balanced flavour. Thanks to its long durability, it offers you unlimited fruit enjoyment until the summer season.
January - June
Bicolour, yellow to greenish, at least 30% of the fruit is covered with a bright vermilion colour
