A cry is being heard

Consumers have been demanding organic food for some years now, and more and more farmers in Val Venosta are switching to organic production methods. An area the size of 870 football pitches is already being farmed according to organic guidelines. By 2021, the area will have increased by more than half. But anyone who thinks we are still in the early stages of organic farming would be mistaken. We are already in the throes of achieving a major goal: becoming the organic leader in European fruit growing!

Every step counts

There are already numerous initiatives underway to promote organic farming in the Val Venosta region. We offer our members expert advice and assistance in implementing sustainable methods.
There is already a checklist for ecological measures. It is designed to guide farmers towards environmentally-friendly cultivation one step at a time. Our network partners accompany them through various training courses, from organic cultivation to certification.
Consumers have long been able to trace their apples back to their place of origin. Get to know your organic farmers via the online portal BioGraphy and learn a lot of interesting facts about their work!
Winning stages and new goals

There are also other things going on in Val Venosta. The new organic packaging facility represents a milestone in the journey to becoming an organic leader. It will go into operation in the Juval member cooperative in autumn 2019. All six cooperatives were previously responsible for storage and sorting, but now there is a central point of contact. Going forward, all organic apples from Val Venosta will be stored, sorted and then packaged in the newly certified packaging facility using the latest methods.
Some of the apples leaving the packaging plant will soon be packed in new cardboard packaging. It even protects the fruit without the use of plastic and is completely recyclable. The organic apples are also presented in a tasteful way, making you feel like taking your first bite.

There are, of course, still goals to be achieved in addition to the successes. Bio Vinschgau would like to supply about two-thirds of its customers abroad with organic apples all year round. Over the next few years, cultivation will also be expanded in accordance with Demeter’s strict biodynamic guidelines.
Till then and after, the motto for everyone is: full speed ahead on the way to becoming an organic leader!
