The Tschiggele farm is on the flanks of Val Venosta's Monte Sole Mountain in the village of Castelbello, where the eponymous "beautiful castle" towers majestically over the inhabitants. At one time, the farm was a granary and an integral part of the castle. This multifaceted business is now run by the Pohl family. They also grow organic asparagus and wine here as well as organic apples. The orchards contain Gala, Golden Delicious and Red Delicious. "They are varieties which are especially well suited to the area," says Burkhard, who works together with his son, Peter, and daughter, Kathrin. The son Peter now manages the business and is responsible for the farming. Moving towards organic farming was a decision that all made together. The farm has been certified since 2000 and the asparagus and apples proudly display the organic logo. Burkhard sees their decision as the only right answer: "it's the best chance we have of living together with nature".
