The Tappeiner farmhouse and land is all in the market town of Laces on the balmy, fertile valley floor of central Val Venosta. Peter Tappeiner inherited the farm and manages it now with his son and partner. He attended an agriculture high school and increased his understanding further with a tertiary education course in agroecology. The sun-kissed slopes mean that his orchards are especially well-suited to apples, and he grows Golden Delicious, Topaz, Pinova, Idared and Gala. He also has other fruits requiring very limited pest management: plums, peaches, currants, raspberries and aronia berries. His products are perfectly attuned to Val Venosta's natural cycles. Peter loves working outdoors, tending his trees, monitoring developments and harvesting. He began to convert in 1984, and he was one of the first organic producers in Laces. His personal philosophy comes out when he gives a guided tour of his farm. For him, organics mean being in harmony with nature and its laws. Not just in farming, but also as a way of life.
