My story
Your farm is located in a very special cultivation area in the Vinschgau valley. Can you tell us more about it?
Our small apple orchard is part of a traditional closed farm and lies in the middle of the roughly 50-hectare Schneewinkel growing area in Silandro. This area is home to many organic apple orchards, and since 2019, Schneewinkel has been the site of a pilot project for protecting and promoting biodiversity.
We had already converted to organic in 2016, along with many other farms – partly to protect the surrounding organic farms.
It’s worth noting that we grow apples alongside our professional careers to continue a family tradition.
My sister is an agronomist, I’m a lawyer, and my wife teaches Italian. We all enjoy managing the orchard in a natural and mindful way. From pruning and thinning to harvesting – we do almost everything ourselves.
What’s the added value of organic for you?
With organic farming, we produce good, healthy food – and do so with respect for nature.
We’re building on the legacy of brave pioneers who, decades ago, created alternatives through organic methods – even if they were criticized or laughed at in the beginning.
Today, we owe them our gratitude.
I love walking through the orchard with my two young daughters – knowing they’re growing up in a healthy environment gives me peace of mind.
Did switching to organic affect your everyday life too?
Yes, definitely. I started thinking differently and acting more consciously.
As a natural next step, we converted the home on our property to organic as well.
Instead of a manicured lawn, we planted a bee-friendly wildflower meadow – and honestly, I now prefer it to the uniform grass.
Working outdoors also provides a great balance to my job and helps me stay grounded.
