My story

Jonas, what motivated you to switch to organic farming?
Our Platthof in Kortsch is a relatively young farm – only 15 years old. I took it over from my brother, who had already converted the apple orchards to organic, mainly to promote sustainability and work in harmony with nature. We’re proud that our apples not only taste great but are also grown with respect for people and the environment. The transition wasn’t easy, but today we’re glad we made the change.

Do you grow into organic farming over time?

Yes. I'm not a trained farmer – I actually work as a real estate agent. But I’m slowly learning what organic farming requires, mostly through trial and error. I get a lot of help from my brother, who’s a full-time farmer and runs his own operation.

Has organic farming also changed something for you personally?

Absolutely. When you produce food yourself, you become much more aware of what you buy and eat. I definitely put more value now on local and organically grown products.

Golden Delicious
The classic delicious
Golden Delicious is our main variety and, therefore, the queen of Val Venosta apples. That the most popular apple has a real quality, can be seen in its lovely red cheek. By the way, this is typical of fruits on a hillside.
