My father has been growing fruit at the “Schmiedhof” in Cengles for over 40 years. Since my husband Markus and I started managing part of the family farm, we have introduced additional apple varieties. Today, in our orchards on the valley floor near the Adige, we grow Golden Delicious, Gala, Pinova, Ambrosia, Cosmic Crisp, and in the future also Bonita – producing intensely colored fruits. For several years now, we have been practicing organic farming. My father had already considered organic farming, but only after the farm was handed over to my sister Maria Magdalena and me did we decide to take this path together.
My husband Markus also became enthusiastic about organic farming and decided to give up his full-time job as a paramedic to dedicate himself completely to the ecological idea of agriculture. In doing so, the long-standing experience and knowledge of my father, who actively supports him with advice and assistance, has been an invaluable help.
Our son Jakob also enjoys the exciting life at the “Schmiedhof” every day. As a self-sufficient farm with chickens, pigs, and our own vegetables, there is never a dull moment – neither for him nor for us adults. We also love refining our products further, because for me organic is synonymous with good food, healthy enjoyment – in short, with a good life.
