History of MEG
Val Martello, also called the „berry valley“, is a side valley of Val Venosta and is situated right in the heart of the Stelvio National Park.
Due to its cultivation areas ranging from 900 m to 1,800 m above sea level it is Europe’s most important cultivation of tasty mountain strawberries. The extremely high quality can be mainly attributed to the mild and dry climate, the warm days and cool nights.
Thanks to the altitudes of the cultivation area the strawberries ripen very slowly. They therefore dispose of a very special flavour and are harvested only when most European cultivation areas have already terminated the harvest.
MEG is a member cooperative of VIP:
· foundation year: 1989
· members: 65
· cultivation area: 80 ha
· average harvest quantities of berries and vegetables: 1,500 t
The quality of strawberries and other berries is the result of the interaction of Mother Nature and a strict system developed by VI.P and MEG which is unique in this sector: our quality cycle (ISO 9001) consisting of 8 phases, ranging from cultivation to sales. It enables precise and systematic product quality controls and the traceability of the product to the producer, which constitutes an additional guarantee for all those who want to enjoy secure products without any compromise. Val Martello – an ideal habitat for tasty strawberries.
